
Ladyjacks’ Third Quarter Offensive Explosion Leads to SFA’s Fifth Win of the Season

SAN MARCOS, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (5-0, 0-0 SLC) hit the road for a matchup with the Texas State Bobcats (2-3, 0-0 SBC).
Texas State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before SFA got their first basket of the game with a three from Trinity Moore, 6-3. The Bobcats continued to pull away with a 6-0 spurt which extended their lead 16-5 with 4:32 left in the first quarter. SFA cut the deficit down to four after a three-pointer from Avery VanSickle, 18-14. Texas State responded with a three of their own then both teams traded baskets to finish out the quarter with the Bobcats leading 25-18.
The Bobcats continued their hot start in the second quarter with a 9-0 lead, 34-18. However, as SFA has already proven many times this season you cannot count out the 'Jacks and that showed as SFA went on a scorching 15-0 run to cut the lead down to one, 34-33 with 3:48 left in the second quarter. Texas State knocked down another jumper before SFA's Faith Blackstone nailed two free throws to keep the score within one as the 'Jacks headed into the locker room down 35 to 36.
SFA had another 15-point run to start the third quarter which was led by four points from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker and VanSickle, 50-36. Key Roseby got in on the scoring frenzy as she hit back-to-back threes and a layup with 13 seconds left in the third quarter. In the third quarter, the SFA defense stood tall as they held the Texas State offense to only three points and went into the final ten minutes with a 20-point lead, 59-39.
Texas State knocked down the first two layups of the fourth before SFA hit back-to-back-to-back three-pointers to extend their lead, 70-48. The Bobcats went on a 7-1 spurt to cut the lead down to 71-55 with 3:28 left in the game. Vansickle responded with her third three of the quarter to put the 'Jacks up 74-55. Both teams traded baskets until the end of the game which was capped off by a no-look pass from Vansickle to Harmanie Dominguez for a corner three which pushed her past the 1,000 career point mark, 79-60.
