
Lumberjacks Down Hawks in Game Two of the Classic

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-3, 0-0) defeated the Monmouth University Hawks (0-7, 0-0) by a final score of 72-67 in the 'Jacks second game of the Axe'Em Classic presented by Etech.
The Hawks would strike first winning the opening tip and opening the game up with a dunk to take a 2-0 lead. Nana scored the first two points for SFA in the paint to tie the game at 2-2, the Hawks would go on a 10-0 run until Keith Lamar would get to the line and convert one of his free throws giving the Hawks a 12-3 lead.
The teams would trade baskets, and Monmouth would eventually take a 17-7 lead with 12:58 to go in the first half. The Lumberjacks would not stay cold for long as they began to heat up, going on an 8-3 run to pull within two and force a Monmouth timeout, 17-15. SFA would take their first lead of the game at 10:21 as Nana sank his second three of the game.
Both teams would continue to trade buckets and at the fourth media timeout, Monmouth would hold a 28-23 lead. SFA would continue to struggle from the free throw line going just 6-for-13 in the first half. At the half, the Hawks would hold a 32-28 lead.
Nana Antwi-Boasiako would lead the team in points and rebounds at the half with 10 and six. Keith Lamar also had nine points at the half.
The Lumberjacks would come out of the half and cut into the lead with a Myles Jenkins layup. Both teams would then trade three-pointers and SFA would take a 36-35 lead as Nana would drain his second straight three, 36-35. After a Hawks turnover, Matt Hayman would set up a Myles Jenkins dunk as he threw it down to take a 38-35 lead.
After Monmouth would tie the game with a three, SFA would take the lead with a layup going into the first media time out of the second half, 40-38. The teams would continue to trade blows, but SFA would jump out to a four-point lead after Nana's fifth made three of the game giving him 19 points with 11:32 left in the second half.
The Hawks would shrink the Lumberjacks lead to one at the last media timeout, but SFA still led 62-61 on the back of Nana's 22 points and career-high six three-pointers made. With 1:16 left in the second half, Monmouth pulled within three points, 66-63. Matt Hayman would be sent to the line to ice the game with five seconds left and make both as the Lumberjacks took their second game of the Axe'Em Classic over the Monmouth Hawks.
