
Women’s Golf Wraps Up Texan Match Play

Glen Rose, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Golf team finished play at the Texan Match Play tournament yesterday taking third after defeating Lamar in the second round of play. The Ladyjacks lost to Texas Southern earlier in the morning.
The match play event featured a Ryder Cup style scoring method with the pairing competing on a per hole basis and the first to win more holes than the other with less holes remaining to play was crowned the victor. Each individual win was representative of one point while a tie was represented by half of a point.
The Ladyjacks won one of five pairings while tying another against Texas Southern and then awaited the winner of Lamar and Tarleton State.
For the Ladyjacks, Brooke Dishman won her first match winning eight holes with only seven to play. Avree Fields and Kinley Pessel both lost their first-round match finishing one down after playing all 18 holes. Shanna Sandoval finished her first round tying her opponent, and Sydney Moss lost her first-round match as she was three holes down with two to play. The Ladyjacks fell in the first round and were slated to take on Southland Conference foe Lamar in the second round.
The Ladyjacks would go on to defeat the Lamar Cardinals by a score of 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 to secure a third-place finish in the event.
Brooke Dishman secured her second individual win of the day as she finished three holes up with two holes to go. Avree Fields won her match finishing four holes up with three to go. Kinley Pessel played all 18 and finished tied with her individual opponent. Shanna Sandoval won her match as she was three holes up with two holes to go. Sydney Moss rounded out the field for the Ladyjacks dropping her match as she was three holes back with two to go. SFA collected three and a half points and defeated the Cardinals.
The Ladyjacks will resume action October 20th through the 22nd in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic.
