
Ladyjacks Complete Prairie View Invitational

ARLINGTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Bowling Team traveled to Arlington to compete in the Prairie View Invitational and ended the tournament on a strong note as they won their final two matches of the tournament against Southern University and Maryville University.
The competition featured 12 teams with 10 ranked teams, no. 1 Jacksonville State, no.2 Vanderbilt, no.3 Youngstown State, no.4 Louisiana Tech, no. 5 North Carolina A&T, no.6 Arkansas State, no. 7 Nebraska, no. 9 Stephen F. Austin, no. 10 Maryville, and no. 11 Sam Houston. In addition to the ranked teams, the invitational featured two unranked teams in Prairie View A&M and Southern University.
On Friday, January 26th the Ladyjacks started with five baker matches that saw them start with a match against Jacksonville State where they fell 1027-923 against the top ranked team in the NTCA Top 25 Poll. The Ladyjacks then had a match against the no. 2 ranked in the NTCA Top 25 Poll in Vanderbilt where they fell 1093-939 to the Commodores. The third match of the day pitted SFA against another top-10 ranked team in Nebraska where the Ladyjacks fell 1024-968. However, the Ladyjacks ended the first day on a high note as they claimed consecutive wins to close out the first day of the invitational. It started with the Ladyjacks knocking off no. 10 ranked Maryville with a 1024-996 win over the Saints. The Ladyjacks ended the Baker Matches with a commanding 934-756 win over the hosts Prairie View A&M.
The second day saw the Ladyjacks stray away from the usual five traditional match game day as they played six traditional matches instead of the usual five matches. The Ladyjacks kicked off the second day of the tournament on the 27th getting a date with no. 6 ranked Arkansas State where they lost a nail biter to the Red Wolves 945-928. The second match of the day saw SFA square off with North Carolina A&T and fall 980-910, before bouncing back with a solid win over Southern University, 958-868. The fourth match of the day saw SFA pitted against no. 3 ranked Youngstown State with SFA unable to pull off the upset as the Penguins claimed a 1005-969 win over SFA. However, the Ladyjacks bounced back with a suspenseful 897-881 win over Louisiana Tech, before ending the second day with a 1081-964 loss to the rival Sam Houston Bearkats.
The Ladyjacks concluded the tournament with two best-of-seven baker matches that saw them sweep the Sunday matches with two wins to end the tournament on a high note. The first match of the day saw SFA claim a 735-691 win over Southern as they swept the first four games. The final match of the Invitational for the Ladyjacks saw SFA win four of five games against Maryville University and claim a 971-921 win.
Overall, SFA finished ranked 10th out of 12 possible teams, finishing the invitational with a 4-7 overall record, averaging 189.3 points/game as they recorded 10,413 points over the course of the weekend.
The Ladyjacks bowling team will be back in action on February 16th when they get set to participate in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State from February 16th to the 18th.
