
SFA and California Baptist Face Off on Space City Home Network

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks play their third game of their current four-game homestand when they host Cal Baptist University. Game time is set for 2 pm at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Lumberjacks head coach Kyle Keller and staff will participate today in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers program. Coach Keller and his staff will wear a suit and sneakers in support of the national program. Coaches' vs Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). For 30 years, this program has united coaches, fans, and members of the basketball community in fundraising and educational initiatives that fuel the mission of the American Cancer Society–to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Series History:
SFA is currently 2-0 versus the California Baptist Lancers. Both of SFA's wins have come since they joined the WAC in 2021. The Lumberjacks won the most recent matchup 80-58 against California Baptist that came last season. Stephen F. Austin is averaging 81 points a game in the history of the series.
A Look at SFA:
Grand Canyon snapped the Lumberjacks four game home winning streak with a 53-51 victory before a season high 3,649 in attendance. The Jacks have won seven of their last nine games, have a 12-7 overall record and are 5-3 in WAC action.
In the game Thursday night, the Lumberjacks had an opportunity to take the lead with :05 left in the game on a Matt Hayman layup but junior guard couldn't convert. A quick SFA foul, GCU converted one of two free throws to take a 53-51 lead. The Lumberjacks were unable to convert on the long pass down the court and GCU ran the clock out for the win. SFA's scoring was led by Latrell Jossell's 14 points with five assists. Jalil Beaubrun was the only other Lumberjack in double-digits with his second career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. It was also his second straight double-double game.
SFA had a game high 24 bench points vs GCU and currently are third in the NCAA for bench points per game and 1st in WAC. SFA's bench was led by Jalil Beaubrun's 11 points. The Lumberjack's bench is currently averaging 36.89 points per game.
Jalil Beaubrun's 11-point, 11 rebound game against Grand Canyon University was his third career double-double and his second straight double-double game. He posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Lumberjack's overtime win against Seattle.
SFA currently ranks number one in the WAC in five different statistical categories. The 'Jacks are number one in bench points (36.89, 3rd NCAA), first in field goal percentage defense (40.8, 57th NCAA) first in offensive rebounding per game (13.32, 28th NCAA), first in steals per game (9.4, 17th NCAA), and first in turnovers forced per game (18.16, 4th NCAA).

Since the WAC resumed conference play, California Baptist has gone 4-2, winning their last four in a row. The Lancers currently sit at 5-3 in WAC play, 12-7 overall, with their most recent matchup on Thursday night ending in a 63-54 win over UTRGV.
In their win over UTRGV, California Baptist had four players in double-digit scoring. Hunter Goodrick (14), Yvan Ouedraogo (10), Brantly Stevenson (11), and Kendal Coleman (10) all scored over 10 points for the Lancers. CBU finished 38.6% from the field and 30% from the three-point line.
The Lancers' scoring is led by Dominique Daniels Jr. He is currently averaging 18.4 points per game and is also leading the team with his 2.9 assists per game. Yvan Ouedraogo (10.6) and Blondeau Tchoukuiegno (10.3) are also averaging double-digit scoring for California Baptist.
WATCH GAME ON SPACE CITY HOME NETWORK: The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced that five additional linear television broadcasts will be carried on regional sports networks (RSN) and today's Lumberjacks vs CBU will be the first of five games broadcast on an RSN. The Lumberjacks vs CBU Lancers game will be available regionally on Space City Home Network and on Cox Cable Regional Sports (Arizona, California). Games will also be streamed live on ESPN+. On the men's side, the other RSN games are Tarleton State at Abilene Christian on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. (CT), Southern Utah at Utah Tech on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. MT and UT

The Lumberjacks will cap off their four-game homestand with their matchup against Utah Valley on Saturday, February 1st at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
The game vs. the Lancers is a "White Out" themed game and the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a white SFA T-shirt. And, as part of the first 250 fans attending the game, they will also receive a SFA Lumberjack Plush.
