
Four Ladyjacks Record Double-Digit Points as SFA Axes GCU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Grand Canyon, 79-66 Saturday afternoon. SFA improves to 21-4 (11-2 WAC) while GCU falls to 17-7 (9-4 WAC).
The teams traded blows for most of the first quarter, but after a jumper by Jordan Harrison and a three-point basket by Destini Lombard the Ladyjacks held a seven point lead going into the first quarter break. The Lopes went on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter and cut SFA's lead down to three. SFA then went on a five-point run to bring the lead back up to eight and went into halftime with that lead, 36-28. The Ladyjacks started the third quarter on a 7-3 run to extend the lead to 12 points with 7:43 left. GCU fought their way back and cut the lead down to four with 4:29 to go in the third. SFA regained a five point lead in the last minute of the quarter, the back-to-back layups from Lombard and Avery Brittingham put the Ladyjacks up nine, 58-49. The Ladyjacks lead returned to double-digits early in the fourth quarter and they never looked back as they cruised to a 13 point victory over the Lopes.
SFA led GCU in almost every stat category including; points in the paint (40-34), points off turnovers (17-16), second chance points (17-13), fast break points (10-6), bench points (12-11), field goal percentage (53.8- 41.4), and three-point percentage (35.7-6.7). Aiyana Johnson was one of four Ladyjacks who recorded double-digit points with 20, followed by Harrison with 17, Brittingham with 15, and Tyler McCliment-Call with 12. Johnson also led the team with seven rebounds, followed by Brittingham who grabbed six. Brittingham led the Ladyjacks with six assists, followed by Harrison, the assists leader in the WAC, who recorded four. Johnson recorded three steals which is a season-high for her. Lombard and Brittingham also recorded two steals against the Lopes.
The Ladyjacks will be flying to Utah next week for matchups against Utah Tech and Southern Utah. Utah Tech is up first on Thursday, February 16th at 8:00 p.m. central time.
