
Ladyjacks Set for Austin Peay Classic

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (6-4, 2-0) will stay in the Volunteer State to wrap up a three-game road trip as they will participate in the Austin Peay Christmas Classic and square off with Troy University (1-7, 0-0), and the hosts Austin Peay (5-6, 0-0) for the first time in program history.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin is entering the tournament coming off a loss to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Sunday, where they fell 72-47 on the road. The loss marked the second consecutive loss for the Ladyjacks as they will look to end the road trip on a high note and snap their current two-game skid.
Kurstyn Harden led all 'Jacks in scoring as she once again put-up double-digit points for SFA as she finished the game leading the team with 11 points and pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds. That double-digit point mark for Harden marked her 10th consecutive game scoring in double figures to start the season as she continues to provide unparalleled consistency for Coach Leonard Bishop. Kyla Deck followed Harden with a strong game of her own as she finished second on the team with nine points, while leading the team with five steals on the defensive side. Zoe Nelson and Tyler McCliment-Call formed a dynamic duo as they combined to stuff the stat sheet against the Blue Raiders combining for 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two assists.
Harden recorded her 500th career rebound against Middle Tennessee as she currently leads the team averaging a robust 17.3 points per game, while also leading the team by averaging 7.9 rebounds a game. Kyla Deck continues to provide production on both ends of the court for SFA as she is currently second on the team with 12.5 points per game, second on the team with 31 assists, and leads the team with an impressive 32 steals this season. Destini Lombard has formed a three-headed monster with Deck and Harden as she also averages double-digit points with 11.1 points/game. Lombard also helps create plenty of scoring when she herself isn't as she has dished out a team-leading 45 assists, while having the second most steals (21) and blocks (seven) on the team.
Kyla Deck's strong defensive performance on Sunday boosted her in the national rankings as she currently ranks 15th in the nation with her 32 steals, while ranking 11th in the nation in steals per game with a healthy 3.20/game. As a team, the Ladyjacks currently average 11.3 steals per game which is good for 31st in the nation and has them tied with schools such as Michigan State, Portland, and ULM.

The Troy University Trojans come into the Austin Peay Classic looking to put some tough losses behind them. The Trojans have faced a gauntlet of a schedule so far this season as they have played a schedule that has included Georgia, Iowa State, and Tennessee. The Trojans have also had some heart-breaking losses as they lost by a combined eight points to both Samford and Belmont at home. However, Troy was able to claim their first win of the season as they claimed a 71-59 win over UT Martin on December 9th and will be looking to bounce back from a 105-68 loss to Iowa State on Sunday, December 17th.
In their most recent game against Iowa State, Makayla Hallmon and Ja'Mia Hollings were both able to finish in double-digit points against the Cyclones. Hallmon finished with a team-leading 18 points while Hollings finished with 10 points of her own. Tai'Sheka Porchia led the defensive effort for the Trojans as she led the team with six rebounds, while also finishing with a team-leading three steals and recorded the only block for Troy. Shaulana Wagner led the team in assists as she dished out four while adding in three points, three rebounds, and one steal.

The hosts of the tournament, the Austin Peay Governors, will be carrying plenty of confidence with them into this tournament as they are in the midst of a two-game winning streak and are in the middle of an eight-game homestand. So far on the homestand, the Governors are 2-1 and are coming off a 72-64 win against Fisk, and most recently a 90-57 win over Bryan College on December 16th. So far this season, Austin Peay has played competitive basketball down to the final horn as they only have one loss that was by double-digit points and more impressively claimed a road win over SEC opponent Kentucky 68-63.
