
Ladyjacks Blowout Oklahoma Panhandle State to Open the Season

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The SFA Ladyjacks started off the 2023-2024 season today with a resounding 118-46 win against the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies. The Ladyjacks move to 1-0 on the season with the win, and Coach Leonard Bishop earned his first win as head coach of the 'Jacks.
The Ladyjacks made sure there was no doubt in this one, as they opened up a 36-6 lead after the first quarter that included an 18-0 run. They had their way in the paint early on, as they had 20 points in the paint in the first, with the Aggies having only two. SFA was also flying to the ball on defense, and once they did, they got out and ran. They had 20 fast break points in the first, and didn't allow a single point in transition to Okla. Panhandle. The Ladyjacks coasted after that, mounting an impressive 50 point lead by halftime. The Ladyjacks would continue to dominate in the second half, as they outscored the Aggies by eight in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth. The story of the game was the Ladyjacks defense, as they accumulated an amazing 30 steals in the contest. Kyla Deck led with seven, but it was a team effort as 10 of the 12 players who played recorded at least one. Deck also led the team with seven assists. Mimi Gatewood (19) and Kurstyn Harden (17) led the team in scoring and six Ladyjack players scored in double-digits. Gatewood was very efficient, as her 19 points came in only 19 minutes and she went 7 for 13 from the field. SFA was lights-out shooting the rock, going 46-89 (51.7%) from the field as a team. Digging into some of the more advanced stats, it's easy to see how the Ladyjacks dominated today. They scored 64 points off turnovers, 40 fast break points, and 72 points in the paint. They dominated in every facet of the game, and everyone chipped in as they got 73 points from their bench.
