
Three Ladyjacks Score Double-Digits as SFA Cruises Past Texas Southern

HOUSTON, Texas- Stephen F. Austin (2-2, 0-0) defeated Texas Southern (1-4, 0-0) Wednesday night, 73-58.
Texas Southern jumped out to a quick five-point lead, but Kyla Deck hit a three-pointer to cut the lead down to two. SFA fought back and took a slim lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. After a jumper and free throw made by Kurstyn Harden the 'Jacks went into the first quarter break with a 17-14 lead. SFA came out on fire in the second quarter as they went on a 13-3 scoring spurt which was fueled by five points from Tyler McCliment-Call, 30-17. TSU went on a 10-point run of their own toward the end of the first half to cut the lead down to three. However, Destini Lombard hit a three with one second left on the clock to give the Ladyjacks a six-point lead going into halftime, 33-27. SFA got their lead back up to double-digits with eight minutes left in the third and kept that lead in double-digits heading into the fourth quarter with a score of 55-42. The 'Jacks scored the first five points of the fourth quarter off a layup from Zoe Nelson and another three-pointer from McCliment-Call, 60-42. Teams traded buckets for the rest of the quarter, but SFA's 15-point lead remained steady as they cruised to a 73-58 victory.
SFA led TSU in points in the paint (38-20), fast break points (13-12), bench points (16-4), field goal percentage (44.1-28.6), and three-point percentage (26.3-21.7). Harden led the offensive attack for the 'Jacks with 19 points, followed by Lombard who scored 14 and McCliment-Call who scored 11. Nelson led the team with nine boards, followed by McCliment-Call who recorded eight. Lombard dished out a career-high seven assists, followed by Deck who recorded four assists. Deck and Lombard also led the team with two steals each, and Lombard tied her career-high with two blocks.
The Ladyjacks will return to the Sawmill on Saturday, November 25th at 2:00 p.m. for a matchup with the Owls of Rice University.
