
SFA Dominates 92-68 to Reach Cayman Island Classic Finale

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Island- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-1, 0-0) faced off against Drake (3-1, 0-0) for the first time since their 66-64 win over the Bulldogs in 2008. SFA dominated in the second meeting as they got their second win of the tournament 92-68. The 'Jacks are now on a three-game win streak.
The 'Jacks played the Bulldogs evenly throughout the majority of the first twenty minutes. SFA turned to Jalil Beaubrun who finished the game with a career high 14 points to get them through the first half. Beaubrun was 4-for-7 from the field (2-for-3 from three) and posted six rebounds with two assists.
AJ Cajuste and Clayton Southwick's back-to-back buckets helped put the 'Jacks in front to give SFA a 17-16 lead with 7:35 left in the opening half. Latrell Jossell also contributed to a 5-0 Lumberjack run, with his three-pointer. SFA finished with a season high 14 made three-pointers.
Jalil Beaubrun finished the first half as SFA's leading scorer. Beaubrun posted eight points and was a huge factor in the 'Jacks 38-32 lead going into the half. With under 12 minutes to play in the second half SFA held their largest lead of the day. AJ Cajuste took control for the Lumberjacks down the final stretch of the game. Cajuste finished the game 5-for-6 shooting with 12 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
A 16-3 SFA run with 4:16 left in the game put things out of reach for the Bulldogs as SFA led 86-64. The final score was 92-68 as the Lumberjacks won game two of the Cayman Island Classic.
SFA finished with four double digit scorers. Nana Antwi-Boasiako (13), Latrell Jossell (12), AJ Cajuste (12) and Jalil Beaubrun (14) all finished with double digit point totals. The Lumberjack offense shot lights out from the field. SFA finished the game shooting 63% from the field and 60.9% from behind the arc.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. against Utah State. Utah State won 65-62 over Akron to reach the Cayman Island Classic Finale.
