Lumberjacks Take Fourth at NMSU Herb Wimberly Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Lumberjacks Men's Golf team competed at the New Mexico State University Herb Wimberly Invitational Monday and Tuesday, October 16-17, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The men finished fourth overall out of twelve teams in the event shooting a combined +16 over par and a final score of 868 strokes. The 'Jacks also had three men compete as individuals in the event.
Senior Jake Smelser was the top finisher for the Lumberjacks taking 10th place and shooting even par through three rounds of play finishing with a final score of 213 total strokes.
Sophomore Eyan Edsall finished tied for 25th for the tournament at +5 over par and a final score of 218 strokes. Junior Trey Rouse finished tied for 36th at +8 over par and a final score of 221 strokes. Junior Cameron Hubbard finished tied for 45th at +10 over par with a final score of 223 total strokes. Senior Jaxon Griffith rounded out the team of five as he finished tied for 59th at +15 over par and a final score of 228 total strokes.
The Lumberjacks also had three individual competitors at the event. Senior Ryan Esparza finished tied for 42nd at +9 over par and a final score of 222 total strokes. Junior Joe Paul Pennington finished tied for 53rd at +11 and a final score of 224 total strokes. Finally, Junior Jonathan Shuskey finished tied for 59th at +15 over par with a final score of 228 total strokes.
The men are back in action October 23rd through the 24th at the La Tour Intercollegiate in Matthews, Louisiana.
