
Ladyjacks Look to Continue Hot Streak Against Utah Tech Thursday Night

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program looks to start 2023 on the right foot against the Utah Tech Trailblazers and win their seventh straight game.
Ladyjack Statistical Analysis
The Ladyjacks are currently on a six game winning streak and are averaging 84.3 points per game, while allowing 56.5 points per game to opponents during that span. The 'Jacks are also 32-1 in regular season conference games dating back to the 2020-2021 season.
SFA remains one of the top women's basketball schools in the nation as they rank top 20 in: assists per game (13th), field goal percentage (11th), rebound margin (17th), steals per game (20th), and three point percentage (9th). All of which is ranked first in the conference, besides steals per game which the 'Jacks rank second.
The Ladyjacks currently have three players that average above ten points per game, with Aiyana Johnson leading the way with 12.9. Johnson has scored double digit points in ten out of 13 games so far this season. Also look for Johnson to be a factor on defense as she leads the team with 18 blocks on the season.
Although coming off the bench in every game so far, Kurstyn Harden, Kyla Deck, and Destini Lombard have played a major role in SFA's explosive offensive. Harden leads the team in field goal percentage with 66.3% and averages the second most points per game with 10.9. Deck and Lombard puts the points on the board with help from their deep range as both players have at least a 40% three point percentage, Lombard leading the team with 47.1% of her shots making the bucket.
A Look at the Trailblazers
Utah Tech comes to SFA with a 9-4 record, 1-1 against conference opponents. They are 3-3 on the road and lost their first road conference game against Southern Utah.
Breaunna Gillen is the one to watch for the Ladyjack defense as she has no problems racking up the score board. Gillen averages 18.4 points per game and has six 20+ point games. She also makes up 92 of the Trailblazer's 199 total assists, 60 more than the Trailblazer with the second most assists. Gillen seems to have no shortage of stamina as she averages 34.5 minutes per game.
Look for Maggie McCord and Emily Isaacson to make most of their shots from beyond their arc as both have made 90 attempts each from the three point line. Although both take many deep shots, roughly only a third of their shots make the basket. Amber Kartchner makes the most of her deep shots and leads the team with a 39.5% three point percentage, making 17 shots on 43 attempts.
Last Matchup Against Utah Tech: Ladyjacks Extend Streak with 81-54 Win
Aiyana Johnson led SFA with a double-double scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the win. Stephanie Visscher followed with 16 points, while Angel Scott chipped in 11 points. BriAnna Mitchell added six points, six rebounds and six assists.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 23-15 lead then added 20 points in the following three quarters taking 67-38 lead heading into the fourth and eventually cruising to the 81-54.
The Ladyjacks dominated the paint with 36 points in the paint and forced Utah Tech into 29 turnovers resulting in 29 points off turnovers.
Last SFA Match: Ladyjacks Defeat Wildcats as Brittingham Records Her Second Double-Double
Stephen F. Austin defeated Abilene Christian, 83-78 Saturday afternoon. SFA improves to 11-2 (1-0 WAC) while ACU falls to 7-6 (1-1 WAC).
After 11 days the Ladyjacks were back on the court to start conference play against the Wildcats. Both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm early as the first points of the game came with 8:44 left in the first quarter. The game was tied at 16 with a minute and a half to go until Destini Lombard hit a three-pointer to give SFA a 19-16 lead at the quarter break. ACU was able to take the lead back and build it to a five-point lead due to their three point shooting in the second quarter. The Wildcats were 5-7 from behind the arc in the second quarter and held a four point lead at halftime, 41-37.
The teams exchanged blows throughout the third quarter and ACU was able to hang in there with some timely foul calls and successful free throw shooting. The Ladyjacks were able to build their lead to nine points with a minute left in the third and finished the quarter with an eight point lead, 64-56. In the fourth quarter it was all SFA as the Ladyjacks continued to extend their lead. Kyla Deck went off in the fourth quarter as she scored 11 points including three consecutive three-pointers in a little over a minute which helped propel the Ladyjacks to an 83-78 victory.
SFA led ACU in several stat categories including; second chance points (15-5), bench points (33-11), points in the paint (40-28), fast break points (16-10), field goal percentage (53.8-43.3), three-point percentage (72.7-40.7), and free throw percentage (82.6-65.2). Avery Brittingham recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Deck finished ahead of Brittingham with 18 points. Tyler McCliment-Call grabbed seven rebounds and was one of four Ladyjacks scoring double-digit points with 12. Jordan Harrison joined Brittingham, Deck and McCliment-Call in the double-digit club with 14 points. Harrison also led the team with three steals and five assists.
