NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin defeated Abilene Christian 75-68 in the 'Jacks first WAC conference game of the season. The Lumberjacks improve to 9-5 (1-0) and the Wildcats fall to 8-6 (0-1).
Sophomore Sadaidriene Hall is catching fire at the right time for the Lumberjacks as he recorded his second straight double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds, leading the 'Jacks to the victory on the Wildcats. The Lumberjacks played a strong defensive first half, only allowing 27 points and forcing nine turnovers, seven of those turnovers being steals. What seemed to be a very comfortable 12 point lead at halftime quickly went away as the Wildcats came out of the half with a nine-point run to make it a close ballgame once again. However, the Lumberjacks were able to answer back and keep the Wildcats from taking the lead away from them for the rest of the game. The next time the 'Jacks and Wildcats face off will be in Abilene on February 22nd.
Hall's double-double led the team in points and rebounds, and he also led the team with three blocks and four assists. Nigel Hawkins followed right behind with 15 points of his own. Nana Antwi-Boasiako had a near perfect night on the field making six of seven attempts, dropping 14 points. AJ Cajuste recorded his seventh straight double-digit point game and went 6-6 on the free throw line.
The Lumberjacks led in the following statistical categories: field goal percentage (47.4-45.9), free-throw percentage (68.0-54.5), second chance points (12-11), points in the paint (42-40), and fast break points (10-9).
The 'Jacks look to continue their winning streak on the road against UT-Arlington, taking on the Mavericks for the first time since 2012. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st.
