Avery Brittingham Records Her First Triple-Double as SFA Cruises Past Texas Southern
Stephen F. Austin defeated Texas Southern University 100-63 Sunday afternoon. SFA improves to 2-1 while TSU falls to 0-3.
Texas Southern scored a three-pointer to open the game, but then SFA scored the next two buckets to take the lead and they never looked back as they cruised to a 100-63 victory. The largest lead the Ladyjacks held was 41 points in the fourth quarter.
SFA led TSU in almost every stat category including; points in the paint (58-16), points off of turnovers (23-15), second chance points (15-7), bench points (41-14), field goal percentage (56.7-29.2), three point percentage (50.0-23.8), and free throw percentage (84.2-80.0).
Kurstyn Harden led the scoring for the Ladyjacks with 20, followed by Angel Scott who recorded 18. Avery Brittingham had a spectacular performance with a triple-double as she led the team in rebounds and assists, which are also career highs for her. Brittingham's triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists is the first triple-double in at least 13 years and is the first documented one as of now.
A look at North Texas
Junior Tommisha Lampkin had a career day with 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the North Texas women's basketball team to a 71-58 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana in the season opener Thursday night inside the Super Pit.
Lampkin, who registered a double-double before halftime, went 8 for 11 from the floor and set a new career-high in both points and rebounds for the second double-double of her career.
Newcomers Jaaucklyn Moore and Breanna Davis also scored in double figures as Moore finished with 13 and Davis added 10 in their debuts in a UNT uniform.
As a team, UNT held the Eagles to 28.9 percent shooting from the floor and just 18.2 percent from 3-point range as they swelled the lead to 16 by halftime and held on for the 13-point victory.
The Mean Green have now won each of their last three season openers and five of their last six dating back to the 2017-18 season.
