NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf program added a new member to the coaching staff this week, Jackson Smith, per SFA Head Coach Trey Schroeder. Smith is familiar with the SFA program and the Southland Conference, as he was a two-year letterman on the men's golf team at New Orleans from 2017-2019 and a volunteer assistant last year. He will be assisting both the men's and women's programs.
In 2019, Smith earned All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention accolades as a senior with his highlight performance taking place at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate, where he shot a career-low round of 68. He was the "Most Improved" student-athlete at UNO in 2019 as well.
During his assistant coaching tenure at UNO in 2019-20, he was a member of the staff when UNO achieved the lowest-team stroke average (289.50) and largest single year stroke average improvement in program history (10.76). The Privateers won the Gulf Coast Collegiate in 2019-20, and ranked 158th nationally in the GolfStat rankings, which was the highest in over a decade at UNO when Smith was present.
