FRISCO, Texas --
Freshman Paula Cerda was named Southland Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Cerda represents the Ladyjacks in No.1 singles, and No. 2 doubles with Annie Walker.
"Paula is very deserving of this," says Head Coach Erin Scott. She works so hard on and off the court and it's so fun to watch her keep improving."
Cerda had a stellar weekend at Texas State and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she was victorious in all four of her matches. She defeated Rishona Lewis (Texas State) on Friday 6-2, 6-4, along with defeating Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez/Andrea Fuchs (Texas State) 6-0 in her doubles match with Annie Walker. The standout freshman continued her momentum into Saturday at UTRGV, coming away with a 6-4, 6-1 advantage in singles, and defeated Isabelle Bahr/Valeria Montero in doubles (UTRGV) 6-1.
The Ladyjacks sit at 5-1 on the season, and two of those wins took place last weekend. SFA opens up their home campaign this afternoon against Louisiana Monroe at 1:00 p.m.
