
‘Jacks Fall in the First Round NCAA Playoffs at UIW

San Antonio, Texas - The SFA football team saw its season end in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs in a 35-28 overtime loss to Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon.
The 'Jacks took a 28-21 lead when defensive line Rayshad Nichols made the play of the year in the FCS, ripping the ball away from the UIW running back and scampered 32 yards for a touchdown with 5:16 left in the fourth quarter. The play came three minutes after the 'Jacks marched 55-yards in 12 plays to tie the game at 21 when Trae Self hit Keshon Williams in the endzone.
However, UIW answered with a touchdown with 38 seconds to play to force overtime.
UIW went on offense first in overtime and scored, while the 'Jacks saw their pass fall incomplete on fourth down to end the game and the SFA season.
SFA trailed until Nichols' strip and touchdown run in the fourth quarter.. UIW scored first with 7:08 left in the firstt only to see the 'Jacks answer when Self hit Quentyvian Borders for the score. UIW retook the lead on the ensuing drive only to see Self hit Borders again in the endzone right before the half to knot the game at 14.
The Cardinals notched the only points of the third quarter, setting up the dramatic fourth quarter.
Self finished 21-for-37 with 243 yards and three touchdowns, while Miles Reed led the 'Jacks on the ground with 86 yards on 20 carries. Walter Payton Award finalist, Xavier Gipson, hauled in six catches for 101 yards surpassing 1,377 receiving yards on the year to set a new SFA school record for reception yards in a season.
SFA's season comes to an end after making the program's first trip to the NCAA playoffs since 2014.
