The SFA women's basketball team improved to 2-0 following a dominant 73-52 win over Houston at home Friday night. The 'Jacks have won the first two games of the season by a total of 48 points.
It was a back-and-forth affair until the 'Jacks closed out the 3rd quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 51-42 lead heading into the 4th. Coach Kellogg's team didn't stop there, as they held the visitors to just 10 points in the final 10 minutes while adding 22 of their own to secure the victory.
Bri Mitchell was red-hot from the field, shooting 7-8 for 15 points. She also collected 6 assists and a career-high 6 steals. Aiyana Johnson led in scoring with a 17-point double-double while her sister, Aaliyah, added 14 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Angel Scott was also a huge contributor off the bench yet again, adding 11 points with a couple of 3-pointers and 3 steals in her first game inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Much like the first game against UTSA, the Ladyjacks won two key battles en route to victory. The team forced 31 turnovers leading to 32 points to Houston's 12. The 'Jacks also outscored the Cougars with 25 bench points to 13.
The 'Jacks will stay at home as they take on Southeast Missouri State on Monday, November 15th, at 6:30 p.m. before heading to College Station for a battle with Texas A&M on Thursday.
