
Blistering 3rd Quarter for Ladyjacks Propels Victory Over UIW, 91-48

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --
It was an entertaining matchup at the McDermott Center Saturday afternoon as the SFA Ladyjacks (12-2, 4-0 SLC) traveled to Incarnate Word for its fourth Southland Conference game of the season, coming back to Nacogdoches with a 91-48 victory over the Cardinals (2-4, 0-1 SLC). SFA only held a 14-point lead at the break, but a 31-9 3rd quarter differentiated the two conference foes.
The Ladyjacks were led in scoring by Aiyana Johnson with a double-double performance (17 points, 10 rebounds), followed by Zya Nugent (16 points, 3 steals), Alyssa Mayfield (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Stephanie Visscher (14 points, 5 assists).
FIRST HALF TIMELINE
The Ladyjacks started the game with an 8-0 lead at 7:18 in the 1st quarter, forcing an early UIW timeout. The Cardinals responded out of the timeout scoring four quick points, but Stephanie Visscher and Aiyana Johnson converted on a bucket apiece to put the Ladyjack lead back up to 12-4. UIW was able to chip away at the SFA lead making it 14-12 from an Arielle Adams 3-pointer, but SFA went on a 10-0 run in the final 2:15, wrapped up by an Avery Brittingham layup to enhance the Ladyjack lead, 24-12.
After both teams traded a few baskets at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, UIW's Arielle Adams nailed another triple at 7:35, cutting the SFA lead back to 30-18. 19 seconds later, Zya Nugent hit a 3-pointer of her own. The Ladyjacks held a 45-31 lead at the half, but only outscored the Cardinals 21-19 in the 2nd quarter.
3rd QUARTER = DIFFERENCE MAKER
SFA exploded for a 31-9 3rd quarter, kicked off by an Alyssa Mayfield layup and a Zya Nugent layup, credited to Marissa Banfield with two crafty bounce passes. The Ladyjacks went on 14-0 run to start the second half, with UIW not scoring a point until 3:12 off a made free throw. Offense continued to flow for the Ladyjacks (12-21 FG), along with the 4th quarter following the same pattern.
