SFA Places Four on 2019 Southland Football All-Conference Teams

FRISCO, Texas -- The Southland Conference has released its annual All-Conference Teams for football, and SFA has four athletes recognized among their peers around the league. Placekicker Storm Ruiz, WR/KR Xavier Gipson and DB Willie Roberts were all recognized on the league teams.
Storm Ruiz headlined the SFA contingent with First Team honors as a kicker. One of the league's all-time highest scorers and best kickers, Ruiz finishes his career having never missed a PAT (117-117) and converting on 57 of 73 field goals. This season, Ruiz was a two-time Southland Special Teams Player of the Week and made 21 field goals, which tied for the fourth most in a season in conference history. He connected on six field goals of 40+ yards and two over 50 yards.
Xavier Gipson earns dual honors as a wide receiver and kick returner. The Dallas native broke onto the scene as a freshman this season, racking up team-highs in yardage (934), catches (52) and receiving touchdowns (7), marks which ranked sixth, 14th and tied for ninth on the conference leaderboards. He also earned Thrid Team honors as a kick returner, having ranked fourth in the league in kickoff return yardage (356) and kickoff return average (20.9). His finest games included a five catch, 109-yard performance in which he hauled in a pair of touchdowns against Abilene Christian (Oct. 19), while he set a career-high in yardage with 132 yards against Incarnate Word (Nov. 9).
DB Willie Roberts earned Third Team Defense honors after a freshman campaign in which he totaled 38 tackles, three interceptions, seven pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
