Ladyjacks secure Series Sweep with Dominant 11-0 Win over Lamar on Saturday

BEAUMONT, Texas. -- It was can best be described as a perfect start to league play, the SFA softball team shutout Lamar Unviersity 11-0 in six innings on Saturday to begin conference play with a series sweep. The Ladyjacks (18-4, 3-0 SLC) took the lead in the second inning and never relented, holding the Cardinals scoreless behind six shutout innings from Ashley Kriesel in the circle.

Freshman Shaylon Govan led the way offensively for the Ladyjacks, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and three RBIs. Sophomore Alex Hedspeth put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with an inside the park home run and two RBI's. Junior Marisa Arriaga recorded three hits, scored two runs and drove in another for SFA.

The victory was SFA's 12th in a row and 18th on the season.

GAME SUMMARY

The Ladyjacks took the lead for good in the second, scoring a pair of runs off an RBI double by Kylie Hunt to score Arriaga and a Hedspeth RBI single. Govan's double in the fourth cleared the bases to make the score 5-0, and Hedspeth's inside-the-park home run got the Ladyjacks up 6-0.

SFA tacked on six more runs in the sixth inning to enact the run-rule and close the game off after six innings.

GAME NOTES

» Kriesel tossed a three-hit shutout for the Ladyjacks.
» Arriaga picked up three base knocks in the game for SFA.
» Kriesel struck out six Caridnal hitters.
» The Ladyjacks had control of the rest of the game after moving ahead of the Cardinals 2-0 in the second.
