SFA Bench Delivers in 80-56 Victory over Incarnate Word on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- The SFA men's basketball team got a 39-point showing from the bench on the way to an 80-56 victory over the Incarnate Word Cardinals on the road Saturday. SFA improved to 24-3 overall and 15-1 in action with the victory, their tenth in a row.
The 'Jacks had three players score in double figures, led by Cameron Johnson, who had 16 points. Gavin Kensmil added 15 points and six rebounds and David Kachelries chipped in as well with 13 points from the bench.
Led by Nathan Bain's four offensive rebounds, SFA did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 19 second chance points.
The nation's top turnover producing defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 17 Incarnate Word turnovers and turning those takeaways into 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. Oddyst Walker led the way individually for the 'Jacks with two steals.

GAME SUMMARY
After falling behind 21-19, SFA went on an 8-0 run with 7:14 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Johnson, to take a 27-21 lead. The 'Jacks then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 42-30 advantage. SFA did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 30 of its 42 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, SFA kept widening that lead, expanding it to 58-44 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Kensmil's layup, to grow the lead to 66-44 with 7:39 to go in the contest. The 'Jacks kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 80-56 win. SFA took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 38 points in the lane.
