NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A host of SFA teams were in action this week, as men's and women's basketball each enjoyed a one-game week, softball played five games at the Maverick Classic, and baseball opened its 2020 season at Arkansas State. Women's tennis played a pair of matches, women's bowling competed in the Mid-Winter Invitational, and men's and women's golf each played in their first tournament of the spring season.
This weekend, SFA baseball hosts a tournament in Nacogdoches with games against SIU-Edwardsville and UT-Arlington. The men's basketball team hosts Central Arkansas at home on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m, while the women's team travels to Conway.
SFA beach volleyball opens its inaugural season at the Kingsville Tournament in Kingsville, Texas, while track and field heads to the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station on Saturday.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The men's basketball team avenged its only conference loss this season on Wednesday in Corpus Christi, taking down the Islanders thanks to a career-best 23 points from Gavin Kensmil. The 'Jacks will face the Bears of Central Arkansas at home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m, before hitting the road to Incarnate Word on Saturday in a doubleheader with the women's team.
The 'Jacks are ranked ninth in the collegeinsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major poll, and are up to 14 votes received in the AP Top 25 Poll for men's college basketball. The buzz about SFA has even emanated from respected CBB sources such as Ken Pomeroy and Dick Vitale. Senior guard Kevon Harris is a sure bet to make SFA basketball history on Wednesday night, as he needs just three points to pass former Lumberjack star Thomas Walkup (2012-16) for the most points scored in an SFA uniform during the NCAA era.
