Senior sits just outside of top 25 headed into second and final day
MAGNOLIA, Texas - Only ten strokes separate the SFA women's golf team from the top five teams after two rounds of play at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational.
Through 36 holes, the Ladyjacks sit in eighth place in the 13-team event after having shot a 49-over 625 as a team. A group of four Ladyjacks sit near the middle of the individual standings in the 77-woman event and SFA is led by senior Alexandra Batista and her 11-over 155. That puts Batista in a three-way tie for 26th place.
Right behind Batista is freshman Karina Benavides who carded a 12-over 156 during her first 36 holes of play. The first-year player birdied four holes during her second and final round of the day to finish with a 3-over 75 in that round.
Zayda Cedillo and Kelly Yang currently sit in a tie for 32nd place after shooting identical scores of 13-over 157. Each of them registered a pair of birdies through their first two rounds.
Sloane Bennett (18-over 162) and Kate Dishman (22-over 166) are also competing for SFA at the event.
SFA is one of six Southland Conference programs competing at the event with Houston Baptist (15-over 591) holding a 15-stroke lead over the host Bearkats (30-over 606) for the top spot following the first two rounds.
