'Jacks post 13th-place finish
CHOUDRANT, La. - On the final day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate tournament, the SFA men's golf team moved up one spot in the final standings after shaving four strokes off of its team total from day one at the Squire Creek Country Club.
As a team, SFA shot a 303 to finish with a 15-over 610 through the two-day event. That helped the 'Jacks move up one spot to 13th place in the event's final standings. The SEC's Georgia won the event as the Bulldogs penciled in a 11-under 565, edging out Texas State (9-under 567) for second place. Host Louisiana Tech (2-under 574) locked up a third-place finish, too.
Sophomore Johannes Gudmundsson continued to serve as SFA's top performer after leading the team through the first 18 holes of action. The Reykjavik, Iceland, product shot a 2-over 74 and posted a pair of birdies in round two. That allowed the sophomore to finish in a tie for 33rd place in the 84-man field.
Joining Gudmundsson in the list of top-50 finishers at the event was Isiah Henderson who birdied five holes on Monday to finish with a 4-over 76 for the round and 5-over 149 for the event. That helped Henderson record a 47th-place finish.
The remaining three 'Jacks who competed in the event were Austin McKinney who posted a 13-over 157 (T-75th) for the tournament, Steven Fabik who jumped five spots up the leaderboard in day two by recording a 3-over 75 on his final day of action to finish with a 14-over 158 overall. Collin Juban (19-over 163, T-82nd place) birdied once through the last 18 holes to card a 9-over 81 during round two.
Only two strokes separated the top four finishers at the event as Troy's Conner Futrell and Central Arkansas' Trey DePriest finished as co-champions of the event by carding identical scores of 6-under 138 through the event.
The 'Jacks are off until the month of October when they head down to Montgomery, Texas, to compete at the Bentwater Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State. SFA will begin competition in the two-day event on Monday, Oct. 7.
