Frenchman Leclerc to join ‘Jacks for 2019-20 season and beyond after two-year career at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA men's golf program and head coach Trey Schroeder have announced the addition of junior college transfer Maxime Leclerc as the Lumberjacks' second signee of the 2019 class. A two-year letter winner at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa, Leclerc joins Troup, Texas (Troup HS), native Jake Smelser as SFA's two newcomers ready for fall semester competition.
The 'Jacks welcomed highly-ranked Bogotá, Colombia, native Eldrick Juzga Pinto to the program this spring, SFA's first signee of the 2019 calendar year.
Hailing from Lamorlaye, France, Leclerc will arrive in Texas' oldest town having already won a national title. During his freshman campaign, Leclerc helped Indian Hills C.C. capture the 2018 NJCAA Men's Golf National Championship by tying for 22nd with a four-round total of four-over 292 (72-75-73-72). That same year he aided the Warriors to the 2018 NJCAA District III title, also tying for 22nd with a three-round mark of 7-over 223. Leclerc placed fourth at the Heritage Hills Collegiate by shooting a two-round score of 5-under 139 (71-68) and tied for ninth at the Purgatory Intercollegiate with a 1-over 145 (73-72), helping Indian Hills clinch tournament titles at both events. The right-hander was named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Academic All-Region following his inaugural collegiate season.
Leading the Warriors to a second-straight NJCAA District III championship (sixth consecutive for the school) his sophomore year this spring, Leclerc tied for 13th with a two-round tally of 3-over 147 before helping Indian Hills close out the season as a national finalist. He captured his first collegiate individual title by winning the Warrior Challenge, firing a first-round score of 6-under 66 and shooting a 5-under 67 on the final 18 holes of play to post a 12-under 204. Leclerc also turned in top-10 finishes at the Tyler Junior College Spring Invitational, where he placed seventh, and at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational, where he was eighth, as the Warriors held the top spot in the national rankings at the end of the fall season.
A graduate of Lycée Jean Rostand in France, Leclerc was a member of the junior national team that defeated Germany in a head-to-head match and won a national championship with his club team in 2016.
The son of Arnaud and Karine Leclerc, Maxime has one brother, Nathan.
