Four SFA bowlers pick up all-academic honors from league in Southland Bowling’s inaugural annual list
FRISCO, Texas – For the first time in the Southland Bowling League's five-year history an All-Academic Team has been named and a quartet of SFA bowlers appear on the league's inaugural list that recognizes bowling student-athletes for their dedication in the classroom. Senior Paige Beeney, along with sophomores Sarah Gill, Dakota Faichnie and Sarah Voiers were all placed on the Southland Bowling League All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season following the Ladyjacks' second national title in the last four years.
After claiming National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-American honorable mention acclaim, Beeney was named NCAA Women's Bowling Championship MVP for her terrific performance in SFA's 2019 NCAA Bowling Championship title match win over top-ranked and top-seeded Vanderbilt. Owning a 3.91 cumulative grade point average as a senior interdisciplinary studies major with a concentration in education EC-6, Beeney claimed All-Southland Bowling League honorable mention accolades and was placed on the NTCA All-Academic Team last year. The Salado, Texas (Georgetown HS), native owned the highest pinfall total (11,162) on the team in individual matches and averaged the second-highest score (199.32) among all Ladyjack bowlers. She was the only SFA bowler to bowl in all 56 individual games in 2018-19.
The Ladyjacks' lone United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) qualifier, Gill picked up an All-Southland Bowling League honorable mention plaudit after holding the third-highest individual game average (297.15) on the team. Majoring in kinesiology, Gill has a 3.37 GPA and knocked down third-most total pins (9,266) among all SFA bowlers in 47 individual games. The Attleboro, Massachusetts (Attleboro HS), native played a key role in the Ladyjacks' lineup during their NCAA title run.
Named to the NTCA All-Academic Team following the 2017-18 season, Faichnie was a bronze medal winner for team Canada in doubles at the 2018 World Bowling Youth Championships. Like Gill, Faichnie played a vital role in SFA's 2019 NCAA championship, subbing in after a game one loss during the national title match and bowling in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. With a 3.67 GPA as an animal science (pre-veterinary) major, the Innisfil, Ontario, Canada (Nantyr Shores Secondary School), native knocked down 3,192 pins in 21 individual games throughout the 2018-19 season and averaged a 179 game score.
