
Pair of Ladyjack Golfers Named Southland All-Academic

Senior Jamee Jorgensen and junior Alexandra Batista land spots on Southland’s All-Academic Second Team
FRISCO, Texas – A pair of SFA women's golfers have been selected to the 2018-19 Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team, as announced by the league office Monday morning. For the first time in their Ladyjack careers, senior Jamee Jorgensen and junior Alexandra Batista landed a spot on the conference's all-academic team with both holding grade point averages over 3.8.
A three-time Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll member, Jorgensen owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as a business administration major. The Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas (Champion HS), native posted the third-lowest scoring average among SFA women's golfers throughout the 2018-19 season with a 79.03 mark, playing in all 33 rounds and claiming two top-20 finishes. Jorgensen tied for 15th at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, (Feb. 25-26) and closed out her Ladyjack career by tying for 18th at the Southland Women's Golf Championship in Magnolia, Texas (April 15-17).
A multidisciplinary studies major at SFA and a 2018 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar, Batista has maintained a 3.86 GPA and led the Ladyjacks with a team-best 76.82 scoring average throughout 2018-19. Competing in all 33 rounds, Batista shot par or better in four different rounds and turned in a career-low 3-under 68 at the Red Rocks Invitational in Cornville, Arizona (March 23-24). The Trophy Club, Texas (Byron Nelson HS), native carded a then program record and career-best 54-hole score of 3-over 216 at the Red Rocks Invitational and posted four top-20 finishes and had and one top-10 placement during school year. Batista placed eight among 60 total golfers at the Islander Classic, while tying for 12th at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley Invitational (March 11-12) and tying for 17th at the Red Rocks Invitational.
SFA is one of three teams with multiple selections on the Southland All-Academic teams with Houston Baptist landing three between the two teams and Sam Houston State collecting two spots on the All-Academic First Team.
The Southland All-Academic teams are voted on by a head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for all-academic selection. Nominees who were also named to the All-Conference First Team or CoSIDA Academic All-District team are automatically named Southland All-Academic.
The Southland awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the student-athlete of the year. The Southland Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
