
Leyvani and Hendrix Capture All-Southland Conference Honors

Senior Angelo Leyvani picks up third-straight All-Southland accolade by being named to first team, senior Jake Hendrix garners first All-Southland plaudit with second team selection
FRISCO, Texas – Two Lumberjack golfers complete their SFA careers with All-Southland Conference honors as seniors Angelo Leyvani and Jake Hendrix have been named to the league's postseason teams, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Leyvani landed a spot on the first team, while Hendrix earned second team accolades.
Picking up his fourth-straight All-Southland plaudit, Leyvani was tabbed honorable mention as a freshman in 2016 before being named to the third team in 2017 and the second team as a sophomore last season. Hendrix garners his first All-Southland selection after collecting honorable mention a year ago.
Averaging a 72.16 per round score for 2018-19, Leyvani set the single-season program record for stroke average. Carding a school-record 19 rounds at or below par throughout the season, Leyvani posted eight top-25 individual finishes and placed within the top 20 seven times. Claiming three top-10 finishes, the San Antonio, Texas (Thomas A. Edison HS), native began the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back top 10 placements. He shot a career-low 54-hole score of 9-under 207 to begin the season at the Golfweek Program Challenge (Sept. 9-11) on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, turning in a season-low 5-under 67 score in the final round and tying for fourth among 75 total golfers. The following week, Leyvani tied for sixth among 65 total competitors at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate (Sept. 17-18) in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with a 2-under 211.
After tying for 11th (1-under 143) at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate (Oct. 15-16) and tying for 20th (4-over 220) at the Little Rock Invitational (Oct. 22-23), Leyvani finished 12th (5-over 221) at the LaTour Intercollegiate (Feb. 18-19). Closing out his Lumberjack career with three top-25 finishes, Leyvani captured his first first-place finish at the Bearkat Invitational (April 1-2) in Montgomery, Texas, carding his second-lowest three-round score of his career with a 7-under 209 and finishing atop the 79-player leaderboard. He tied for 25th (2-under 214) at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 8-9), before tying for 15th (12-over 228) last week at the 2019 Southland Men's Golf Championship in McKinney, Texas.
With a 73.55 scoring average across his four-year SFA career (2015-19), Leyvani tied Mitchell McLeroy (2009-13) for the program's all-time career-low scoring record.
Owning a 73.03 stroke average across all 32 rounds in 2018-19, Hendrix registered the fourth-lowest scoring average in a single season in program history and held the second-lowest per round average among all 'Jacks behind only Leyvani. Shooting 13 rounds at or below par, Hendrix turned in a total of five top-25 finishes throughout the season and placed with the top 20 four times. He began 2018-19 by tying for 15th at the Golfweek Program Challenge, carding a 3-under 213 for the three rounds, before claiming the first of three top-10 finishes at the LaTour Intercollegiate in February. Tying for fifth among 67 total golfers, Hendrix shot an even-par 216.
The Austin, Texas (Home School), native recorded a career-low 4-under 212, which included carding a career-best 6-under 66 in the third round, at the Lake Charles Toyota Invite (March 18-19) en route to tying for 24th. Hendrix's second top-10 finish of the season came at the Bearkat Invitational where he tied for eighth among a 79-player field with an even-par 216. Last week, Hendrix had the best finish of his SFA career in his final tournament representing the Purple and White. Hendrix took home third place among 55 total individual competitors at the Southland Championship with a 4-over 220.
