Senior named to league’s second team, first women’s golfer to be named all-conference since Jessie White in 2016
FRISCO, Texas – For the first time since 2016, the SFA women's golf team is represented in the Southland Conference's postseason accolades as senior Erica Lautensack has been named All-Southland Second Team by the league office. Highlighted by a runner-up finish at the 2019 Southland Women's Golf Championship last week in Magnolia, Texas, Lautensack closed out her Ladyjack career with four top 10 finishes throughout the 2018-19 season.
The Arlington, Texas (Arlington HS), native set the program's 54-hole record in her final collegiate tournament, carding a career-low 1-under 215 across the three rounds of the 2019 Southland Championship at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club. Improving her score by each round, Lautensack shot an even-par 72 on the second 18 holes of play after carding a 1-over 73 in the opening round and turned in a 2-under 70 in the final round. She becomes SFA's first all-conference women's golfer since Jessie White was also named to the second team as a junior in 2016.
Lautensack began the Ladyjacks' 2018-19 campaign with three consecutive top 15 finishes, tying for seventh among 50 total golfers to start the season at Oral Robert's Lady Maxwell Invitational in Ardmore, Oklahoma, where she shot an 8-over 221. With an 11th-place showing at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Lautensack shot her second-lowest score of the season (4-over 217), before tying for 10th among 75 competitors at Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational with an 8-over 224.
During the spring portion of the season, Lautensack tied for fifth among 60 golfers at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Islander Classic with an 11-over 227 and tied for 22nd at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley Invitational. At Lamar's Cardinal Challenge in Beaumont, Texas, the senior posted her sixth top-25 finish of the season by tying for 17th among 59 golfers.
Throughout 2018-19, Lautensack placed within the top 20 a total of six times and recorded seven top-25 finishes. With five rounds shot at par or below, Lautensack carded a season-low 2-under 69 in the second round of both the Golfweek Program Challenge and the Red Rocks Invitational in Cornville, Arizona.
Seven of the league's eight women's golf members are represented on the all-conference teams with Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto being tabbed Southland Player of the Year. The Bearkats' Kenlie Barrett is the 2019 Southland Freshman of the Year and Lamar's Carson Racich is the conference's newcomer of the year. After leading Sam Houston State to the Southland Championship title last week, Bearkat head coach Brandt Kieschnick was named coach of the year.
All-Southland teams and individual superlatives are voted upon by each school's head coach and sports information director. Voting for oneself or one's own athletes is not permitted.
