Senior closes out her Ladyjack career by setting program’s 54-hole record with a 1-under 215
MAGNOLIA, Texas – Senior Erica Lautensack closed out her SFA women's golf career by setting the program's 54-hole record and the Ladyjacks improved their score by five strokes to wrap up the 2019 Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship in Magnolia, Texas, Wednesday afternoon. Tying her season-best single round of 3-under 69, Lautensack finished the two-day 54-hole conference championship with a record setting three-round score of 1-under 215.
Capturing a runner-up finish, Lautensack claimed her highest tournament finish of 2018-19 among the tournament's 40-player field. She came just two strokes of the individual title, which was won by Sam Houston State's Kenlie Barrett with a 3-under 213, and broke junior teammate Alexandra Batista's 54-hole record score of 3-over 316, which was registered last month at the Red Rocks Invitational in Arizona. Lautensack's second-place finish is the best individual performance at the Southland Championship since Jessie White ('17) took home the individual crown in 2015 as a sophomore with a 4-over 220.
Chiseling five strokes off its total score between the second and third rounds, SFA carded an 11-over 299 on the final 18 holes of play to place fifth at the eight-team championship tournament with a final tally of 44-over 908.
Fellow senior Jamee Jorgensen wrapped up her SFA career Wednesday as well, posting her second top-20 finish of the season by tying for 18th with a three-day total of 11-over 227.
Batista knocked seven strokes off of her score on the final 18 holes of play and tied for 26th after shooting a 1-over 73 Wednesday and finishing with a three-round score of 17-over 233. Sophomore Kelly Yang posted the identical score (17-over 233) and also tied for 26th, notching a 5-over 77 on the par-72, 6,258-yard course for the third round. Junior Paola Cortes rounded out the Ladyjacks as she tied for 37th with a 54-hole total of 29-over 245.
A trio of golfers tied for third with three-day scores of 2-over 218, including the nation's 98th-ranked player according to Golfstat in Sam Houston State's Hanna Alberto, while the top-seeded Bearkats earned the Southland title with a final team tally of 16-over 880. Fourth-seeded Central Arkansas claimed a runner-up finish two strokes off the lead with a 18-over 882 as two-time defending tournament champion and No. 2 seed Houston Baptist placed third with a 20-over 884.
The Southland Championship concludes SFA's 2018-19 campaign, a season that saw a pair of top-five team placements and a total of 13 top-20 individual performances.
