Lautensack Within One Stroke of Lead, Ladyjacks Hold Steady to Fifth at Southland Championship

Senior Erica Lautensack tied for second among 40-player tournament field one stroke off the lead, SFA improves score by one stroke in second round

MAGNOLIA, Texas – Following the first 36 holes of play at the 2019 Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship in Magnolia, Texas, senior Erica Lautensack sits just one stroke off the lead among the tournament's 40-player field. Lautensack recorded an even-par 72 on the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club course Tuesday in the second round of the league's championship to stand just one stroke from the top spot with a two-round score of 1-over 145.
The Ladyjacks improved upon Monday's opening round score by a stroke Tuesday, shooting a 16-over 304 during round two to remain in fifth place among the conference championship's eight-team field with a two-day total of 33-over 609. Just three strokes from third-seeded Lamar (30-over 606), SFA has two golfers within the top 10 on the individual leaderboard with senior Jamee Jorgensen in seventh place following her second consecutive round at 2-over 74.
Jorgensen with a 36-hole tally of 4-over 148 sits only four strokes off the lead, which is held by Sam Houston State's Kenlie Barrett at even-par 144. The Bearkats' Hanna Alberto, who is ranked 98th in the nation according to Golfstat is tied with Lautensack for second place.
Sophomore Kelly Yang posted her second-straight 6-over 78 round Tuesday on the par-72, 6,258-yard course and is in 27th place with a two-round score of 12-over 156. Four strokes from Yang is junior Alexandra Batista, who is tied for 30th with a 16-over 160. Fellow junior Paola Cortes improved her score by six strokes between the first and second rounds with an 8-over 80 on the second 18 holes of play to hold a two-day total of 22-over 166.
Top-seeded Sam Houston State is atop the leaderboard at 14-over 590, while two-time defending champion and No. 2 seed Houston Baptist is two strokes off the pace at 16-over 592 and fourth-seeded Central Arkansas (23-over 599) is in third place.
The two-day, 54-hole championship tournament will conclude Wednesday with the third and final round getting underway at 7:30 a.m. Going out in threesomes, the Ladyjacks are paired with fifth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar for Wednesday's final 18 holes of play. SFA will tee off beginning at 8:15 a.m. with Cortes starting things for the Ladyjacks off of hole one, followed by Batista at 8:24 a.m., Yang at 8:33 a.m., Jorgensen at 8:42 a.m. and Lautensack at 8:51 a.m.
