Women’s Golf Completes Opening 36 Holes of Lamar Cardinal Challenge Monday

Ladyjacks improve score by 17 strokes between first and second rounds, three SFA golfers among top 25
BEAUMONT, Texas – After 36 holes of play at the Lamar Cardinal Challenge at the Beaumont Country Club in Beaumont, Texas, the SFA women's golf team owns a seven-stroke lead over fellow Southland Conference member the University of the Incarnate Word and sits 24 strokes ahead of Illinois-Chicago. The Ladyjacks improved their score by 17 strokes between Monday morning's opening round and the afternoon's second 18 holes of play, carding a 73-over 641 on the tournament's first 36 holes.
After shooting a 45-over 329 in the first round, SFA carded a 28-over 312 in round two as a trio of Ladyjack golfers are among the Lamar Cardinal Challenge's top 25. Senior Erica Lautensack shot a 2-over 73 in Monday afternoon's second round, improving her single round score by nine strokes between rounds one and two and finishing the day tied for 18th among 58 total golfers with a two-round score of 13-over 155.
Junior Alexandra Batista is in 21st place after also improving her score by nine strokes between the morning's opening round and the afternoon's second round. Carding a 2-over 73 in round two, Batista owns a 36-hole total of 15-over 157. Fellow junior Paola Cortes is also among the tournament field's top 25, tied for 23rd after shooting an 18-over 160 in the first two rounds on the par-71, 5,943-yard course.
Senior Jamee Jorgensen is tied for 44th with a 36-hole score of 27-over 169 heading into Tuesday's third round, while sophomore Kelly Yang (31-over 173) is tied for 48th.
Texas State leads the Lamar Cardinal Challenge after carding a 22-over 590 Monday as Houston Baptist is three strokes off the lead at 25-over 593. Tournament host Lamar (42-over 610) sits in third place.
The Cardinals' Elodie Chaplet is atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score at even-par 142, while HBU's Kaity Cummings (3-over 145) is three strokes off the pace and Texas State's Sarah White (4-over 146) four strokes behind.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will conclude Tuesday with the final 18 holes of play beginning at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start. SFA is paired with Incarnate Word and Illinois-Chicago for the Lamar Cardinal Challenge's final round and will tee off from holes 10-13. Batista and Lautensack will get started off of hole 10 with Cortes teeing off of hole 11, Jorgensen from hole 12 and Yang hole 13.
