Texas' largest track meet returns for 92nd straight season

AUSTIN, Texas – When the athletes of SFA track and field take to the track to compete this weekend, they'll do so alongside members of 950 high school and college teams making up a field of over 7200 total athletes. Now in its 92^ndstraight year of operation, the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays will begin on Wednesday and run through Saturday, taking place at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The meet's action kicks off on Wednesday morning with the collegiate decathlon and heptathlon. Thursday's competition will highlight the distance disciplines, including the 1500 and 5000 meter runs and the steeplechase. Friday's session will showcase the non-traditional outdoor relay events, including the distance medley relay. The action concludes on Saturday, beginning with a slate of high school events in the morning and the culmination of the collegiate events in the afternoon session.

A total of 34 athletes will represent SFA at the four-day meet, with the first SFA competition coming in the form of the 400m hurdles on Thursday afternoon. Among the participants for the 'Jacks are SLC indoor champions Drake Murphy, Imani Nave, Madison Compass, Branson Ellis and Nastassja Campbell, competing in their respective events. Several others among the travel party have also received acclaim this season in the form of Southland Conference Athlete of the Week awards, including Dominique Jackson, Kaylee Bizzell, Imani Nave, Cayla Burch and Antonio Ruiz.

Also in competition for the 'Jacks this weekend is a trio of distance runners in Kelsey Ramirez, Brittany Innis and Awet Beraki. The three runners will head west to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, hosted by San Francisco State University. Innis and Beraki will both compete in the 10000 meter run on Thursday, while Ramirez will run the 1500m and 5000m races on Friday.

Competition at the first two meets of the 2019 outdoor season for SFA has included stops at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette and, most recently, a foray into a pair of one-day meets in San Antonio hosted by UTSA. As such, the current ranking for SFA athletes heading into Texas Relays is as follows:
