SFA notches 28 Top-8 finishes in San Antonio on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The SFA track and field team competed in the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by UTSA on Saturday, amassing a total of 28 Top-8 finishes on the day. Freshman Cayla Burch provided one of the day's highlights, breaking the program record in the 200m dash, while AJ Bennett made a splash in his first outdoor season with the 'Jacks by winning the 400m dash. The meet was the last tune-up before the annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays next week in Austin, Texas.
MEET EVENT WINNERS
• AJ Bennett won the men's 400m dash with a time of 47.43.
SFA PROGRAM RECORDS
• Cayla Burch broke the previous program record of 23.42 in the women's 200m dash with a time of 23.11 in the event. Burch's time is also the top time in the Southland Conference this season and ranks within the top five nationally.
SFA TOP EIGHT FINISHES
• Branson Ellis tied for second in the men's pole vault, clearing a bar of 5.20m (17-00.75) to pace his team. Hunter Krc and Tyler Stafford tied for sixth at 4.90m (16-00.75), while Carter Scott finished eighth in the event.
• Madison Pecot took third in the women's vault at 4.00m (13-1.50), while Kaylee Bizzell took fifth with a mark of 4.00m as well.
• Kadejah Wilson finished second in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5-7).
• Kevin Steward notched a fourth place finish in the men's discus with a distance of 53.27m (174-09), while teammate Trenton Bridges took sixth with a mark of 52.34m (171-09).
• Raylie Huff finished fourth in the women's triple jump.
• The women's 4x100m relay team of Dominique Jackson, Asia Giles, Imani Nave and Aaliyah Teel finished third with a time of 46.34.
• Jordan Washington finish seventh in the men's 110m hurdles at 14.55.
• Drake Murphy took second in the men's 400m dash at 47.89, followed by teammates Payton Davis (48.76) in sixth and Muzuri Mattar (48.87) in seventh.
• Imani Nave took third in the women's 400m dash with a time of 54.40, a conference-best.
• Ashton Callahan finish fourth in the men's 100m dash with mark of 10.71, followed by teammate Jacob Thomas in fifth at 10.85.
• Madison Compass finished second in the women's 800m with a time of 2:14.10.
• Jillian Turner took fourth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.21, while Caitlin Lennon (1:04.13) and Kinsey Smith (1:04.15) took seventh and eighth, respectively.
• Callahan also finished fifth in the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.48.
• Cayla Burch took second in the women's 200m with a time of 23.11, while Aaliyah Teel finish fourth at 23:51.
• The SFA men's 4x400 relay team of Antonio Ruiz, Isaiah Pittman, Drake Murphy an A.J Bennett took second with a time of 3:10.74, while the "B" team of Jonathan Ventura, Muzuri Mattar, Payton Davis and Logan Houser took fourth with a mark of 3:17.58.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Imani Nave, Aaliyah Teel, Madison Compass and Cayla Burch finished third with a time of 3:48.30 in a tough field.
• Kevin Steward finished fourth in the men's discus at 53.27m, while Trenton Bridges notched a sixth-place finish with a mark of 52.34m.
PERSONAL BESTS
• Tyji Yulee finished with a PR in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15.36.
• Noah Berney marked PR efforts on the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.15m and the shot put on Friday with a mark of 10.04m.
• Conner Wilbur notched PR efforts in the 110m hurdles and 200m dash.
• Avery Ellis-Byerly notched a PR of 12.95m in the shot put as well as a PR in the 100m hurdles.
• Sammi Brashears marked a PR in the shot put (11.02m) and was a finalist in the women's javelin.
• Kinsey Smith's time in the 400m hurdles was a PR by two full seconds.
• Teel's mark in the 200m dash was a PR effort.
• Maggie Okul notched a PR in the hammer throw on Friday.
• Trenton Bridges marked a new personal best in the hammer throw on Friday with a distance of 55.58m (182-04).
