Men’s Golf Ties Lowest 36-Hole Score of Season Through Two Rounds at Lake Charles Toyota Invite

‘Jacks shoot 3-under 573 on opening 36 holes of play at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget, Angelo Leyvani and Johannes Gudmundsson among top 30
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Competing amongst a tournament field which features three of the top-43 teams in the nation according to Golfstat, the SFA men's golf team tied its lowest 36-hole score Monday through the first two rounds of McNeese's Lake Charles Toyota Invite. The Lumberjacks shot a 3-under 573 on the opening day of play at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to sit ahead of fellow Southland Conference members Nicholls, New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana in the 18-team standings.
Senior Angelo Leyvani shot back-to-back scores of 1-under 71 on the par-72, 7,007-yard course and is among the top 30 on the 99-player individual leaderboard with a two-round tally of 2-under 142. Individual competitor freshman Johannes Gudmundsson, who is competing in just his third tournament as a Lumberjack, recorded a career-low 5-under 67 in the opening round Monday morning and was tied for fourth following the first 18 holes of play. He sits tied for 29th with Leyvani holding a 2-under 142.
Fellow freshman Isiah Henderson also shot below par Monday, carding a 1-under 71 and an even-par 72 to sit tied for 39th with a 1-under 143. Senior Jake Hendrix improved his score by six strokes between the first and second rounds, turning in a 2-under 70 on the second 18 holes of play to own a 36-hole total of 2-over 146 tied for 61st.
Freshman Alec Brown shot a career-low 2-under 70 in the opening round and is tied for 72nd with a two-round score of 3-over 147, while sophomore Steven Fabik owns a 4-over 148 to sit tied for 77th.
TCU, who is ranked 43rd nationally according to Golfstat, leads the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 36-hole team score of 36-under 540 as 10th-ranked Texas Tech is in second place with a 28-under 548. Louisiana-Monroe (19-under 557) is 17 strokes off the lead in third.
Texas Tech's Sandy Scott owns a one-stroke lead for the top individual spot with a two-round tally of 15-under 129 following impressive rounds of 8-under 64 and 7-under 65. TCU's David Ravetto (14-under 130) and Hayden Springer (11-under 133) sit in second and third place, respectively.
The third and final round of the Lake Charles Toyota Invite will conclude the tournament Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. SFA is paired with Louisiana-Lafayette, Lamar and Missouri State for the final 18 holes of play and will tee off from holes 9-11. Leyvani and Henderson will tee off from hole nine, while Hendrix will start on hole 10 and both Brown and Fabik from hole 11. Gudmundsson will play the third round with golfers from Rice, Southeastern Louisiana and Lamar and will begin off of hole 17.
