
Bowling in Fourth Following Day One of Columbia 300 Music City Classic

Ladyjacks go 4-1 in Music City Friday, tally 5,059 pins to sit ahead of 25 teams
SMYRNA, Tenn. – Competing among a 29-team tournament field, the largest of the season for the SFA bowling team, the Ladyjacks are in fourth place following Friday's opening day of competition at Vanderbilt's Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Nashville. SFA went 4-1 on day one of the 15th annual tournament hosted at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee, racking up 5,059 pins in five Baker matches to sit ahead of 25 teams.
The Ladyjacks scored a win over the nation's 25th-ranked team and reached 1,000 pins in three matches with their lone setback coming by a mere 13 pins.
With seven of the nation's top 10 teams present and 17 of the top 25, SFA downed Howard by a final tally of 992-945 and blew past Mount Aloysius College 1,002-886. The Ladyjacks rolled games of 200 is six of the 10 games against their first two opponents Friday, claiming more pins than both Howard and Mount Aloysius in all but two games.
Going up against ninth-ranked Saint Francis University (Pa.) in its third match, SFA totaled 963 pins, compared that of 976 by the Red Flash. Despite taking game two of the match in convincing fashion, 227-149, and winning game five (204-174), the Ladyjacks were outdone in the other three games including a 238-pin game four by Saint Francis (Pa.).
Perhaps SFA's finest two performances of the day came in the last two matches as the Ladyjacks defeated fellow Southland Bowling League member and 25th-ranked Youngstown State 1,026-968 and topped Monmouth 1,077-999. SFA rolled three 200-pin games against Youngstown State, including a 237-pin game three and a 226-pin game five, and won all but one of the five games of the match. Versus Monmouth, the Ladyjacks claimed four 200-pin games en route to taking four of the five games, which included an impressive 247-180 game three triumph.
Second-ranked Vanderbilt leads its Columbia 300 Music City Classic with 5,391 total pins, while top-ranked McKendree sits in second place with 5,231 pins, followed by No. 4 Arkansas State (5,175) third.
The tournament continues Saturday with five traditional team matches starting at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, a Columbia 300 Music City Classic champion will be crowned following three rounds of best 4-of-7 Baker bracket play matches beginning at 8:10 a.m.
SFA will see No. 11 North Carolina A&T first Saturday in traditional team match play, before taking on 21st-ranked Maryville University, Lincoln University, No. 23 Louisiana Tech and second-ranked tournament leader Vanderbilt.
