KATY, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team begins its quest for a Southland Conference Tournament title and automatic NCAA Tournament bid on Saturday, facing sixth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the second of two semifinal matchups. SFA received a double bye into this weekend's tournament by virtue of a highly successful run through league play and the resulting second seed in the tournament draw. All games of the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament will be played inside the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
The Southland Conference will be showing the tournament's semifinal round on ESPN+, with Van Chancellor, Randy McIlvoy and Lincoln Rose on the call. Fans can also follow the Ladyjacks on the airwaves via Q107.7 FM in the Nacogdoches area or nationwide via the TuneIn app. Fans can also follow the Ladyjacks on Twitter (@SFA_WBB), Facebook (SFA Women's Basketball) and Instagram (sfa_wbb) for more in-depth content before, during and after the game.
SFA is in strong form entering the tournament action, having won its last two games of the regular season on the way to wrapping up an undefeated home slate (17-0). The wins over fellow tournament qualifiers Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State helped SFA clinch the double bye and also secured yet another 25-win season for SFA, its third straight.
In making their 32ndstraight Southland Conference Tournament appearance, the Ladyjacks will look to improve upon their league-best 45 wins in SLC tournament play. SFA is looking to advance to a third straight Southland Conference tournament title game and capture its 16thtitle overall.
Awaiting the Ladyjacks is sixth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, winners of Friday's quarterfinal matchup with third-seeded Nicholls. Saturday's semifinal gives SFA a chance for revenge against the pesky Islanders, who handed the then-unbeaten Ladyjacks their first conference loss in Corpus Christi on February 20, a loss that cost the Ladyjacks a share of the Southland Conference regular season title. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 16-15 overall on the season after Friday's victory, just their second win in the past six games following the upset of SFA in February. A pair of All-Conference selections in Alexes Bryant (Third Team/All-Defensive) and Dalesia Booth (Third Team) lead the way for the Islanders, who average 62.5 points per game and surrender 59.8.
