Ladyjacks Improve by Eight Strokes Monday at UTRGV Invitational

Women’s golf chisels eight strokes off its score between first and second rounds, posts sixth-lowest second round score in McAllen, Texas
McALLEN, Texas – After 36 holes of play Monday at the McAllen Country Club in McAllen, Texas, the SFA women's golf team stands in seventh place among a 15-team tournament field at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Invitational. The Ladyjacks improved their score by eight strokes between the morning's opening round and the afternoon's second 18 holes of play, carding a 52-over 628 for the day.
After turning in a 30-over 318 in the first round, SFA shot a 22-over 310 on the par-72, 6,042-yard course for the sixth-lowest second round score of the afternoon.
Junior Alexandra Batista paces the Ladyjacks as she is tied for 12th among 80 total golfers with an 8-over 152 after carding back-to-back 4-over 76's. Junior Paola Cortes and senior Erica Lautensack sit just one stroke off of one another tied for 26th and 29th, respectively, with two-round scores of 13-over 157 and 14-over 158.
Senior Jamee Jorgensen rose six spots on the individual leaderboard between the first two rounds and is tied for 38th with a 17-over 161, while sophomore Kelly Yang is tied for 69th after posting a 26-over 170 Monday.
Fellow Southland Conference member Sam Houston State leads the tournament after the first two rounds with a team tally of 14-over 590 as Texas State (20-over 596) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (32-over 608) sit six and 18 strokes off the lead, respectively.
Anne-Charlotte Mora of Texas State leads all golfers with a two-round score of 1-under 143, while Sam Houston State's Hanna Alberto, who is ranked No. 92 in the nation according to Golfstat, is one stroke off the lead at even-par 144. Daniela Bergmann (1-over 145) of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is in third place.
The two-day, 54-hole UTRGV Invitational will conclude Tuesday morning with the third and final round getting underway in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Paired with Omaha and Weber State for the final 18 holes of play, SFA will tee off from holes eight through 10. Batista will begin on hole eight as Lautensack and Cortes tee off from hole nine and Jorgensen and Yang off of hole 10.
