NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA women's basketball team wasted no time getting back into the win column on Saturday, moving past Incarnate Word and improving to 13-1 in conference play. The next test for the 22-4 Ladyjacks comes in the form of eighth-place Central Arkansas, who is in search of a big conference win to boost their Southland Tournament hopes.
The matchup will be shown on ESPN+ and will feature play-by-play from third-year man Bobby Mauro. Mauro can also be heard on the airwaves via FM 94.7 KVLL within the Nacogdoches area. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Having bested the Sugar Bears inside the Farris Center in Conway earlier this season, the Ladyjacks will now bring their own formidable home advantage to bear on UCA. SFA is 14-0 at home this season, with only two of those contests resolved by single-digits. SFA will play three of its final four games inside William R. Johnson Coliseum as it looks to keep pace in the Southland Conference regular season title hunt.
The Ladyjacks have dipped slightly in the conference scoring leaderboards as a team, ranking fifth with 72.5 points per game. A formidable offense has been supported by a 49.8 percent shooting clip from the field and a 39.8 percent mark from beyond the arc, both league-highs. SFA also continues to post the league's best defense at 54.2 points per game, while Wednesday's opponent Central Arkansas is right behind at 58.4.
UCA sports the league's sixth-lowest scoring offense at 63.6 points per game, with top scorer Kamry Orr putting in 16.1 of those per game. In the previous matchup this season in Conway, the Ladyjacks built up an eight-point lead at the half, saw it dwindle by three in the third quarter, and was able to keep the Sugar Bears at bay even despite shooting an uncharacteristic 1-10 from beyond the arc in the game.
For the Ladyjacks, this season's conference slate has been one buoyed by strong shooting performances on a consistent basis, or so it had been. After converting on 45 percent or better from the field in ten of the past 11 SLC games, the 'Jacks have posted two games in which they converted on just 34 percent of attempts from the field. Despite this relative dip in accuracy, the Ladyjacks knocked down double0digit threes for the eighth time this season in the win over UIW, and remain the league's top deep-shooting threat at 7.5 per game on nearly 40 percent shooting.
SFA is 4-0 in its last four meetings with the Sugar Bears, building up a 14-9 edge in the all-time series between the two teams. The Ladyjacks have won seven of the ten home games against UCA since 2006-07, including the home contest last season in Nacogdoches.
