SFA knocks down ten three-pointers to sweep season series
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA women's basketball team got right back on track with its 22nd victory of the season on Saturday, downing the Cardinals of Incarnate Word by a 65-48 score. The win was the 14th of the season at home for SFA, and got them back into the winning column and improved their record in league play to 13-1. The 'Jacks were dominant on the defensive end, holding UIW to just 22 percent shooting from the field and forcing 20 UIW turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Four treys in the period, including two by Chanell Hayes, gave the 'Jacks a 23-12 edge at the end of the first quarter, having connected on 56 percent (9-16) of attempts.
The 'Jacks would extend the lead up to 14 points (32-18) by the media timeout of the second quarter, with all nine players in the game having scored up to that point. The balanced scoring effort was paying dividends with eight assists on 13 made baskets in the quarter and an overall shooting percentage of 46 percent. SFA took a 38-22 edge into the halftime break after outscoring UIW 15-10 in the second frame.
A low-scoring start to the third quarter saw both teams scoring just six points apiece in the opening five minutes of play. The 'Jacks would built up a 14-11 edge in scoring in the quarter, and would lead 52-33 heading to the final stanza.
UIW would outscore SFA 15-13 in the final frame thanks to a 10-12 edge at the free throw line, but weren't able to threaten the lead with a serious run.
OF NOTE
• Chanell Hayes moved past Katrina Pierce (1994-97) to claim eighth place on SFA's all-time made three-pointers list, and now has 140 for her career.
