Batista Shoots Season-Best 1-under 70 in Opening Round of Texas State Invitational

Ladyjacks card two lowest rounds of season on the Plum Creek Golf Course, sit ahead of two Sun Belt Conference teams
KYLE, Texas – Opening up its spring championship season at the Texas State Invitational in Kyle, Texas, Monday, the SFA women's golf team shot its two lowest rounds of 2018-19 thus far. The Ladyjacks began the two-day, 54-hole tournament by carding scores first and second round scores of 14-over 298 and 15-over 299 on the Plum Creek Golf Course.
Heading into Tuesday morning's final round of play, SFA (29-over 597) sits ahead of a pair of Sun Belt Conference programs, Arkansas-Little Rock (31-over 599) and UT Arlington (47-over 615), in addition to Texas-Rio Grande Valley (36-over 604). The Ladyjacks are just two strokes behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (27-over 595) and are six strokes from Lamar (23-over 591).
Junior Alexandra Batista posted her lowest single-round score of the season on the opening 18 holes of play by shooting a 1-under 70. She leads all SFA golfers with a two-round tally of 4-over 146, currently tied for 29th among 84 total golfers.
Senior Erica Lautensack was steady Monday, carding a 2-over 73 and a 3-over 74 to stand tied for 33rd with a 36-hole score of 5-over 147. Fellow senior Jamee Jorgensen is also tied for 33rd with a 5-over 147 after improving her first round score by three strokes, shooting a 1-over 72 after scoring a 4-over 75 on the first 18 holes. Likewise, sophomore Kelly Yang (16-over 158) improved upon her opening round by carding a 6-over 77 Monday afternoon. She's tied for 75th among all individuals, while sophomore Alexis Szewczyk holds a two-round score of 21-over 163.
UTSA leads the 16-team tournament field through two rounds with a 1-over 569, while host Texas State sits one stroke back with a 2-over 570 and Oral Roberts (8-over 576) six strokes behind. Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto notched a 4-under 138 on the first 36 holes to own the lead as UTSA's Julie Houston sits one stroke back with a 3-under 139 and the Bearkats' Jenna Phillips two strokes behind at 2-under 140.
The final round of the Texas State Invitational will get underway Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Ladyjacks have been paired with Arkansas-Little Rock and Texas-Rio Grande Valley for the last 18 holes of play with Batista teeing off of hole 14, Lautensack hole 15, Jorgensen and Yang hole 16 and Szewczyk hole 17.
