
Ladyjacks Take Nugget Classic Title with Win Over Nevada

RENO, NV -- The SFA women's basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench on the way to an 80-65 victory against the Nevada Wolf Pack on the road Sunday.
SFA improved to 4-2 overall with the victory.
The Ladyjacks had four players score in double figures, led by Stephanie Visscher, who had 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Aiyana Johnson added 12 points and six rebounds and Alyssa Mayfield chipped in as well with 12 points from the bench.
SFA out-rebounded Nevada 42-22 in Sunday's game, led by Riley Harvey's seven boards. The Ladyjacks also collected 14 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
The SFA defense was a problem in Sunday's game, forcing 16 Nevada turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Visscher's three steals led the way individually for the Ladyjacks.

GAME SUMMARY
After falling behind 15-6, SFA went on an 11-0 run with 5:56 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Marissa Banfield, to take a 17-15 lead. The Ladyjacks then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 25-24 advantage. SFA did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 25 points close to the basket.
SFA built that first quarter lead to 40-37 before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 2:10 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 48-37, a score that would hold until halftime. SFA dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 23 points close to the basket.
After intermission, SFA added to its advantage and owned a 60-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. SFA played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 12 points in the paint.
SFA kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Johnson's layup, to grow the lead to 80-63 with 4 seconds to go in the contest. The Wolf Pack narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Ladyjacks still cruised the rest of the way for the 80-65 win. SFA fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
