SFA goes 1-2 in baker match play Sunday to wrap up second tournament of 2019-20
HOUSTON - A 1-2 showing during baker match play during the third and final day of the TRACK Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl gave the third-ranked SFA bowling team a sixth-place finish at the 16-team event.
Nebraska exited Houston as the TRACK Kat Klash champions by going 10-3 over the course of the three-day event. The Huskers amassed a pinfall total of 13,197 while runner-up McKendree went 8-5 and totaled 13,129 pins through the weekend. The Huskies took down McKendree 4-3 in the baker match play championship match. Rounding out the top three squads was Arkansas State, who defeated Sam Houston State 4-3 in the third-place match of the baker match play bracket.
Matched up against the host Bearkats in their first baker match play showdown of the day, SFA and SHSU bowled to a 174-174 deadlock in game one before the hosts pulled away. Sam Houston State won the last four games by scores of 224-197, 228-224, 225-201 and 183-135 to walk away with a 4.5-0.5 win.
Following their setback to the Bearkats, the Ladyjacks bounced back in a big way by shutting out Tulane 4-0. SFA hit the 200-pin mark in three of the four games, taking down the Green Wave by scores of 207-145, 189-172, 223-156 and 201-192 for its lone win of the day.
Hoping to finish in fifth place when matching up against North Carolina A&T in their third and final baker match play match of the day, the Ladyjacks had a good chance to do just that by outscoring the Aggies 223-203 and 234-183 to open up a 2-0 lead.
Unfortunately, the Aggies bounced back with wins of 191-160, 218-213 and 195-181 over the next three games to take a 3-2 lead. SFA forced a seventh game with a 204-182 victory, but the Aggies answered SFA's win with a 227-184 triumph to take the match by a 4-3 tally.
In a little less than two weeks, the Ladyjacks head north to Kenosha, Wis., to host the SFA Ladyjack Hammer Classic. The three-day event will begin on Friday, Nov. 15 and run through Sunday, Nov. 17.
