SFA Defeats Prairie View A&M in Doubles Play During Day One of SFA Duals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Four of the six wins picked up by members of the SFA tennis team during day one of the SFA Duals came in double play as the Ladyjacks started their final fall event of the 2019-20 season Friday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
Hosting Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M, Texas State and Tyler Junior College, SFA's lone singles showdown of the day came when the Ladyjacks lined up against Texas State. Two of the seven SFA players who took part in singles play in that match secured victories including senior Armelle Cerdan who scored a 7-6, 6-4 triumph on line four against the Bobcats' Andrea Fuchs.
Joining her classmate in the win column in singles play Friday was Darinka Tiboldi who was slotted in the third line and claimed a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win against Texas State's Josefina Cassara. The Bobcats, however, won five of the seven singles matches to emerge as the victors.
SFA matched up against Prairie View A&M and Tyler Junior College in doubles action, sweeping the Lady Panthers in the three matches while winning just one of the three against the Lady Apaches. Gabi Guilarte teamed with Ai Noa Fabre twice on the day and posted a 7-5 triumph against Prairie View A&M's tandem of Mahogani Green and Victoria Fuenmayor-Castillo before falling 6-3 to TJC's pairing of Emelie Schwatre and Lucie Devier.
Against Prairie View A&M, Tiboldi joined up with Nida Kamal and defeated Jimena Duran-Castellanos and Jessica Lackey 6-3. Kamal took the court again against TJC, this time joining forces with Annie Walker, but the SFA pair fell 6-1 to Momoko Yoshimura and Yu Yue.
In third-flight doubles, Cerdan and Walker handling defeated Prairie View A&M's team of Salma Sanchez Villalobos and Claudia Islas Medina by a 6-1 score. Cerdan and Tiboldi linked up for their third-flight doubles showdown with the TJC pair of Jadeh Chan and Alexia Tashbaeva and posted a 6-2 win over the Lady Apaches' third-seeded team.
SFA continues its run at the SFA Duals at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Schlief Tennis Complex by facing off against Tyler Junior College in singles action. In doubles play, the Ladyjacks are scheduled to battle Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon.
