HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. - The SFA women's golf team (45-over 909) rose two spots in the Little Rock Golf Classic Tuesday to wrap up a 14th-place finish in the three-day tournament. The Ladyjacks finished ahead of fellow Southland members Lamar (17th) and Houston Baptist (15th).
Senior Alexandria Batista (10-over 226) finished tied for 34th and led the way for the Ladyjacks. She was followed by the freshman duo of Karina Benavides and Kate Dishman who shot identical scores of 13-over 229. The two finished tied for 52nd.
Freshman Sloane Bennett (17-over 233) rose 15 spots in the third and final round and finished tied for 71st.
Sophomore Zayda Cedillo (25-over 241) finished the event tied for 85th.
UTEP's Valeria Mendizabal captured the individual title at the event by shooting a 8-under 208 through the three rounds. Rounding out the top three were Cal Baptist's Jocelyn Chee Yi Min (3-under 213) and Bradley's Taylor Ledwein (3-under 213) rounded out the top three and tied for a runner-up finish.
Western Kentucky (12-over 876) bettered Bradley (17-over 881) for the team title with Cal Baptist (22-over 886) coming in third. SFA bested Southland competitors Houston Baptist (46-over 910) and Lamar (49-over 913) to finish as the second-best league school in the 17-team tournament.
With their fall schedule in the books, the Ladyjacks turn their attention to the spring season. Their next event will be the Texas State Invitational which begins on Monday, February 10, 2020. The two-day event will be taking place in Kyle, Texas.
