
Brown's Strong Final Round Helps SFA Finish Ninth in Little Rock

Sophomore improves 19 spots through final round Tuesday
LITTLE ROCK - A strong final day helped SFA men's golf sophomore Alex Brown shoot 19 spots up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 27th place at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic Tuesday at the Chenal Country Club.
Brown's 19-spot improvement from day one to day two was the best turnaround by any player in the 87-man field and helped the 'Jacks secure a ninth-place finish in the 15-team event. The sophomore birdied four holes and shot a team-best 1-over 73 for the final round. As a team, SFA finished 33-over 897 over the two-day tournament and finished two spots above the only other Southland Conference program (Central Arkansas, 36-over 900, 11th place).
Illinois State and Campbell finished the three rounds tied at 8-over 872, but the Redbirds won a one-hole playoff by shooting a 2-under on the 18th hole to secure the tournament title. Middle Tennessee State (13-over 877) rounded out the top three teams at the event.
Texas Tech's Markus Braadlie (6-under 210) and Campbell's Max Theodorakis (6-under 210) shot identical scored to finish as individual title co-champs. Also tied in the third place slot were Illinois State's Joe Hodgson (3-under 213) and Texas State's Logan Lockwood (3-under 213).
Four of the five SFA players finished among the event's top 50 including Steven Fabik (T42nd, 9-over 225), Maxime Leclerc (T46th, 10-over 226), and Johannes Gudmundsson (T50th, 11-over 227). Justin Benson also improved his final standing by double-digits, rising 11 spots yo 62nd and finishing with a score of 14-over 230.
With their fall schedule in the books, the 'Jacks will be off until the month of February. Once the new year hits, SFA's first event will be the Latour Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls at the Atchafalaya Golf Course in Patterson, La., on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 17-18, 2020.
