SFA finishes ninth in 16-team event
Final Results
HANRAHAN, La. - On the final day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational, the third-ranked SFA bowling team won one of its three baker matches in bracket play to lock up a top-ten finish at one of the nation's premier bowling tournaments.
SFA concluded the invitational with a ninth-place finish and produced the highest pinfall total of the three-day event with a tally of 12,987.
Matching up with eighth-ranked North Carolina A&T in their first baker match of bracket play, the Ladyjacks found themselves tied at two each with the Aggies following the first four games. A 194-194 deadlock in the fifth game made matters 2.5-2.5 and SFA moved ahead 3.5-2.5 with a 200-171 triumph in game six. North Carolina A&T, however, forced a five-frame roll off by securing a 236-222 victory in the seventh game and the Aggies took the momentum they gathered with their game-seven win and posted a 110-85 win in the roll-off to collect a 4.5-3.5 victory.
Hoping to bounce back, SFA faced off against 14th-ranked Tulane in the second baker match. Though they struck first with a 198-195 victory in game one, the Green Wave answered with wins of 200-190 and 188-182 in games two and three. SFA responded with a massive 214-147 triumph in game four to tie things up, but Tulane won games five (211-188) and six (237-188) to earn a 4-2 win.
In their final baker match of the day, SFA emerged as the victor. Pitted against Alabama State, SFA opened up a 2-0 lead with wins of 195-163 and 212-158 in games one and two. Alabama State answered with a 200-187 win in game three as well as a 178-153 win in set four to tie the match. SFA overcame the Hornets in games five and six, however, by posting wins of 206-186 and 208-175 to notch a 4-2 win.
SFA concluded the three-day invitational with a record of 7-6.
Coming up Next
Just under two weeks separate the Ladyjacks and their next tournament of the year. On Friday, Nov. 1, SFA heads south to Houston, Texas, to take part in the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State. The three-day event will run through Sunday, Nov. 3, at Emerald Bowl.
