Guilarte and Walker Start Run at ITA Regionals in College Station

SFA tandem picks up doubles win and one singles win each

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Gabi Guilarte and junior Annie Walker enjoyed a great deal of success in the opening day of the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Texas A&M Thursday.
Walker came up with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory over UTSA's Diya Menon in her opening match of the regional meet. From there, however, Walker suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Rice's Anna Botwell in the second round of singles play.
Like her teammate, Guilarte also secured a win in her first match of the regional meet. The senior bested UT-Arlington's Pons-martorell by coming back from one set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Unfortunately, SMU's Claudia Bartolome took down Guilarte 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-4 in a second-round singles match.
Guilarte and Walker enjoyed similar success in double action as the pair played their way to a hard-fought 8-7 (7) win over Texas State's duo of Hana Kvapilova and Chacadyah Lewis in their lone match of the day. With that win, Guilarte and Walker move on to round two Friday morning.
Darinka Tiboldi, SFA's third competitor in the regional meet, suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Sam Houston State's Isidora Zivkovic in an opening round singles matchup. Tiboldi saw her run in the regional meet come to an end later that day by dropping a 6-1, 6-3 match to UT-Arlington's Lucia Natal.
Day two will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning.
