Leyvani Posts Second-Straight Top-10 Finish, ‘Jacks Complete Play in Mississippi

Senior ties for sixth among 78 total golfers with 2-under 211; SFA ties for eighth ahead of three other Southland teams
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the 16th Annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate as senior Angelo Leyvani rose four spots Tuesday to end the tournament tied for sixth place out of 78 golfers. The Lumberjacks carded a 7-over 291 in the third round, finishing the tournament 16-over 868 and ahead of three fellow Southland Conference programs.
Leyvani shot a 1-under 70 in the third round to bring his total to 2-under 211, six strokes behind Southern Mississippi's Matt Lorenz (8-under 205), who took home the individual title. In his second collegiate, freshman Isiah Henderson turned in a score of 4-over 75 in the final round to finish 6-over 219 over the two days, tying for 41st.
The lone Southland member to finish ahead of the 'Jacks was Central Arkansas (14-over 866), while SFA bested Nicholls (18-over 870), Southeastern Louisiana (29-over 881), and New Orleans (32-over 884) in the 13-team tournament. Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosts Southern Mississippi claimed the team title after recording a 5-under 279 for the third round, bringing their total to 9-under 843. Mercer (5-under 847) out of the Southern Conference took home runner-up honors. The Missouri Valley Conference's Missouri State finished third with a final score of 1-under 851.
Sophomore Steven Fabik and senior Jake Hendrix both tied for 46th after tallying scores of 7-over 220 across the 54 holes. Fabik turned in a 1-over 72 on the final 18 holes as Hendrix reported a 3-over 74 Tuesday.
Competing as an individual, freshman Johannes Gudmundsson tied for 59th in his inaugural collegiate tournament with a 14-over 227. Freshman Trent Lutze, who was also competing as an individual, shot a 5-over 76 Tuesday morning to own a final score of 16-over 229. Making his Lumberjack debut Jacob Garcia improved his second-round score by eight strokes by carding a 4-over 75 in the final round to finish the tournament 21-over 234.

The 'Jacks will continue their September journey and compete in a tournament for the third consecutive week next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 24-25 at Colorado University's Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colorado.
